This week it’s mostly been #PoemsofPresence again. I think I missed some days and wrote two on others (who can keep track of the days anymore!?!), but here are a few of this week’s entries:

Bird song spills
into golden afternoon.
A slim candle
of cardinal
illuminates the shade.

Busy with chores,
our orbits crossed
in the living room
where the music played
loud and bouncy.
We met,
danced a few steps
together,
then twirled off,
accelerating back
onto our individual
trajectories.

Illicit Goods
Somehow
a persistent yen
for a sticky roll
with pecans
transformed into
a surreptitious
curbside pick-up
with money exchanged
for a suspiciously bulky
brown paper bag.

This week’s Poetry Friday Roundup is hosted by Mary Lee Hahn at her blog, “A Year of Reading.” Mary Lee is sharing poems by Marilyn Chin along with a nudge to stretch oneself and read “without walls”. Thanks, Mary Lee, I needed that!
Molly, I did miss a few of your #PoemsofPresence this week so I am glad that you are allowing us to play catch-up. The colors in the purple floral nature photo are brilliant and your poems have great word choice. I love the sticky buns the best because I adore this pastry and my mouth is watering now.

Thanks, Carol! I have to admit the sticky buns were not alone in that pastry bag!

As always Molly, you poems are delightful – and now I want a pecan scroll. Yummo!

Thanks, Sally! I think I should make it a personal quest to find the best pecan roll available. I mean, someone has to make the sacrifice, right? lol

Thanks for sharing where your presence was felt this week. I especially like the lines:
:A slim candle
of cardinal
illuminates the shade.”
Lovely image with a great pic to accompany it. 🙂

Thanks, Bridget. That was a line that was in my head when I woke up in the morning after listening to that cardinal the day before.

These are lovely, Molly….that candle of cardinal. I love it the most. Keep writing, keep clicking that camera, kiddo. You make so many happy with your art.

Somehow I missed the pecan roll poem on Twitter. I feel you. There are many things that are just as good homemade, but our local bakery, Fox in the Snow, makes The. Best. pecan rolls. There might be a suspicious brown bag in our future!

I usually prefer to bake myself, but right now doing anything outside the home, even buying baked goods, has an illicit “thrill” to it.

I love that your cardinal is in shadow but a “slim candle” illuminating with song. With well chosen words, each poem captures a moment.

These made me smile — love that spontaneous little dance, that slim candle, and of course the illicit goods!

Thanks, Jama. The dance one is one of my favorites because it was such a silly little spontaneous moment–and our 31st anniversary was this week, so I celebrate that we still have moments like that 🙂

I love the sticky roll poem! I have a yen for them, too, and am trying to convince at least one person in my house to say they want them so that I can buy/bake some…

I’m literally trying to resist going out to buy more right now. The problem is that I didn’t go to the “best” place last time, so even though the pecan sticky rolls were good, I still feel like I missed out. lol (PS You can do this as a solo event! And your family will realize how much they do want them once they see them and then you’ll get major gold stars!)

I, too, am swooning over that “slim candle of cardinal,” Molly. But I also love the “everydayness” of “Busy with chores.” It’s been a pleasure writing with you this month!

Thanks, Michelle. I have a patch of ajuga that is abuzz with bees. I’ve been avoiding mowing it for as long as I can!
