Yesterday’s purchase brings this morning’s pleasure and a spontaneous acrostic poem.
Dancing daffodils greeted Wordsworth
all at once along a bay,
fluttering sprightly in the breeze, in
feisty, dancing waves.
On my own table a host of
daffodils blooms in merry profusion, an
illusion of spring, their
luminosity such a generous gift, as
snow falls lightly outside

They are beautiful but also reminders of the promise of spring and gentle harbingers of sunshine on what is for so many of us, a dark, day-light-savings kind of morning. I would have purchased them yesterday if they had crossed my path knowing this morning would be dark and hard (even if not snowing).

They always make me smile, and were definitely a bright spot in my day. Hope yours wasn’t as hard as you thought it might be!

I like that illusion. We have tulips on our counter…imports from Canada!! I’m glad we don’t have the light snow. I’m ready for spring.

I love that you actually know where your tulips are from! Now I’m feeling lamentably incurious and wishing I’d thought to check where my daffodils originated.

I love the vase, as though the flowers in it are a calming force. My favorite line is “feisty, dancing waves.” Flowers are a gift of spring. We have fields full of wildflowers now.

It’s my favorite vase. And guess what?! It was a bargain from…Reny’s! Also, I’m yearning to see fields of wildflowers. Enjoy!

Beautiful – that last line captures the late winter/pre spring tug! Might just have to pick some up on my way home today! Thanks for sharing!

That vase is perfect for the daffys! And it’s a good thing you told me your poem was an acrostic because it reads so naturally you wouldn’t be able to tell otherwise!!

Isn’t that vase the best!? When combined with daffodils, it is double smile-inducing!

You nailed the ending. “an
illusion of spring, their
luminosity such a generous gift, as
snow falls lightly outside.”
the illusion of spring hints at the falling snow. Well done!

Thanks, Dan! I was surprised to see a light snow falling in the very dim light this morning. The daffodils were a welcome antidote.

Great poem! Can’t wait for the daffodils to actually bloom! By this time last year they were!

I’m not sure where you are, but here in Maine, we’ve had a much colder winter. No matter what the weather is anymore, it tends to make me worry…

Daffodils are inspiration for poetry, especially when snow is still falling!

They are! I was thankful we only got a dusting of snow.

Those daffodils sure are feisty. I just got back from North Carolina where I saw my first daffodils in the ground! Yay!

Feisty is a great word, isn’t it!?

The way you play with words…it’s genius! I had to read your poem over, and out loud. Your lines DANCE: “fluttering sprightly,” “merry profusion, an / illusion of spring,” “luminosity.”
I’ll be thinking about this acrostic a while. Thanks for this beautiful imagery. It suits your daffodils perfectly. =)
