Tabernacle
Pine trees spire above.
We move along
the narrow aisle of trail,
each step stirring
densely layered needles,
censing the air.
In the distance
an emerald glow
filters through tree trunks,
luminous as stained glass.
Without a word
we stop,
rapt.
Something potent
lies ahead.

I feel the sacred in this piece about this place. My kind of church!

Goosebumps! I am a forest girl now and your poem captures the reverence of such a place. I wrote a wee poem about my forest anniversary walk today that included the word, ‘aisle’. Great minds… 🙂

The picture, too, has that emerald glow, but I imagine you know that, Molly. I’m always loving your posts, taking me where I go less these days. Thank you!
