SOLC Day 28: Wordle, Sisters and Bat Poop

March 2023 SOLC–Day 28
A huge thank you to Two Writing Teachers for all that they do to create an amazing community of writers and a safe, welcoming space to write, learn, share and grow.

Two of my sisters and I have a Wordle thread going. Instead of saying “Good Morning” each day, we just share our Wordle results. Today my older sister and I had both gotten stuck (and complained) before ultimately prevailing. My younger sister, who’s usually the last to report in (slacker!), chimed in with her score and comment. I didn’t get a chance to respond until much later in the day, but did so succinctly. Our conversation made me smile. The word, in case you were wondering, was “guano”.

It was a silly exchange when I was feeling grumpy and overwhelmed. A bright spot in a dim day. Once again, sisters to the rescue!

PS If you’re interested, here’s a more complete definition:

There’s a lovely house museum we like to visit in a nearby town. It’s a fascinating time capsule of a Victorian home and I wrote about it (at length) in a post many years ago. The family included groundbreakers in forensics and medicine but originally made at least part of their fortune as shipbuilders trading in guano. Yup. That was a thing. #truestory

  1. Our family also has daily wordle report-ins, and yesterday’s was full of acronymic expletives. The texts give a glimpse of your relationships– fun to read.

Wombats, who knew? I was stuck after 2 guesses and couldn’t find any word that worked. Then when I entered piano, I was sure that I had it.
Still got it in 4, though.I know a bit about poop, too.

Whoa, I never knew that! I guess wordle opens up lots of conversations. I used to have a similar wordle text group with my parents and sister and husband and I definitely miss it

My sister does(did) this with her kids. I chimed in a few times but haven’t played in a while. I would not have known this word. (feeling stupid emoji)

Well, I certainly learned something, although I did not expect to be reading about poop this morning!

  8. I’m struggling with Wordle today. I am on guess #6 and am hesitating to pull the trigger. I have decent strategies (e.g., don’t use any green (correctly placed letters) in a subsequent guess so as to eliminate more letters). Hannah and I support each other when doing Wordle but never with correct letters or insulting to the other’s intelligence clues!

Okay! My friend group had a hard time solving this one and then we also learned more about bat poop yesterday hahaha so funny and random.

It’s fun to know other people playing too. I have heard of people competing with each other by choosing the same starting word and seeing who can get it in the fewest guesses. Interesting twist!

Yes, great title for this post! I was surprised that I managed to get that word yesterday too. It was an unexpected one. That is fascinating that people traded in guano. That sweet sister talk made me smile.

You make me envious, I do my wordle alone. I am also sisterless, perhaps that’s why? This was a fun slice.
