I’ve become a huge admirer of the cherita, especially in Mary Lee Hahn’s capable hands (see a wonderful example here). I love the story nature of it and its overall flexibility. And, have you noticed? No titles!? In my book that’s always a win! Anyway, a small damp adventure at a recent summer festival seemed to beg for its own cherita.
After grey skies all day,
sudden torrents of drenching rain.
People huddled in doorways. Under umbrellas.
We hurried onward, steadily more sodden,
our clothes plastered to us,
our laughter mingling with the rain.

That’s such a great photo of you…and Kurt? What a way to start the summer…maybe all that soaking rain described in your cherita washed some soot and ash out of your air?

That is Kurt. 🙂 He doesn’t look quite as happy as I do. It was COLD! Also, we were lucky enough to be totally spared the wildfire smoke. Very thankful for that!

You two look joyfully soaked. I think I need to try more chreritas. I love how your laughter mingles with the rain. No need to get upset. Embrace joy.

It was such a fun moment. People were laughing at/with us from the doorways as we walked down the street getting drenched.

We’ve had way more rain and gray skies than is typical. I’m trying to keep finding the joy in it!

We had that downpour twice this past week but I wasn’t soaked, made it to the car! You do look so joyful & I love “our laughter mingling with the rain”, Molly.

We’ve had SO much rain this spring. Sigh. This particular rainfall was fun, but it’s tough to keep that outlook with day after day after day.

What a surprise, Molly, not only to read your story poem but to get to the end and see your drenched clothes and smiles. Nature brings all sorts of gifts to us. The words sodden and plastered are such vivid words.

It truly was joyful and a memory that I’ll treasure. (Kurt thought so, too, even though it doesn’t look like it in the photo! lol)

We were certainly drenched! Unfortunately it was really chilly too, but still, it was fun.
