Welcome to the Poetry Friday Roundup! This week I’m offering up a bouquet of haiku and photos in celebration of summer, both in my yard and garden, and further afield.
Long ago, when I chose the flowers for my wedding, I told the startled florist that I wanted them to look like I’d just gone out into a field to pick flowers and ribboned them together into an impromptu bouquet. I still favor a haphazard combination of perennials, wildflowers, and weeds. I offer these poems in that same spirit.
early morning walks
sorting through the moments
bouquet of haiku
hummingbirds hover
forage amidst the phlox
petal confetti
the ocean, so vast
unseen beneath the fog
surges and falls
hay fields glow
goldenrod blossoms blaze
bees hasten their pace

I am reading a wonderful memoir that, at one point, compares us all to Russian nesting dolls, holding our past selves within our present self. It’s interesting to think about what’s the same and what’s different.

Such an odd muppet-like creature, right? What killed me was that I had to leave town right after discovering the nest, and by the time we returned they had all fledged–amazing how quickly that happens!

Molly, the photos are gorgeous, and I can definitely appreciate your haphazard bouquet preference. I am all about those kinds of flower bouquets. “petal confetti” is magical. And I so love the ocean you captured so well–it’s so powerful, even when unseen.

The ocean poem was sparked by our time in New Brunswick, Canada in early July. I was captivated by the ever-drifting ocean fog and by the realization that there’s so much that can be hidden from us, no matter what it is that affects our view.

I love your images, Molly, photos and haiku, but goldenrod has long been a favorite, especially love your haiku of that, their ‘hint’ of something coming! Thanks for hosting and sharing the beauty you see!

Molly, thank you for hosting, and I apologize for forgetting to come back and comment until now. Your haphazard bouquet is loose and beautiful and that final line: “bees hasten their pace”–I don’t think THEY do, but we do, don’t we, as we begin to feel the end of summer, the coming fo the end of the year?

appreciations for your quick wonderful poems, your incredible foto montage & especially for selecting that cascade of greens on rocks and water tumbling from on high ~ so rare a scene, a waterfall, viewing from florida.

That waterfall was a vision amidst the mossy rocks. We also spied a small bird flying into a crevice there and realized it had a nest. We waited and watched and soon enough, we saw its baby, beak open wide, pleading for more food. Such a delightful memory!
