SOLC Day 16: In need of a brain break

March 2024 SOLC–Day 16
A huge thank you to Two Writing Teachers for all that they do to create an amazing community of writers and a safe, welcoming space to write, learn, share and grow.

I have tons of things I could write about today–peaceful moments, funny ones, two very different walks, lots of photos, and more. It seemed like there were readily slice-able moments all day long! But I’ve been putting off writing all day, and I still really, really, really don’t feel like writing (which is highly unusual.) So, I’m yielding. I’m going to go pour myself a glass of red wine and read a book by the fire. I think after 15 days of slicing and masses of PD this week on top of our regular school schedule, I just need a brain break.

There once was a slicer who thought
about writing her blog, but had nought.
Neurons wouldn’t fire
her thoughts to inspire.
She was in a bit of a tough spot.

That’s an impressive limerick for being burned out! For some reason that is one form I always struggle with. Love your line “neurons wouldn’t fire.”

  2. Sometimes writing about being stuck is everything. How grand that you did it with an fabulous limerick!

This is why this is a hard challenge. Day 15, we’re in the middle and I feel stuck too. Glad to hear the honesty and like the other said, wow to that limerick!

If anyone needs a brain break, it’s a teacher on a Saturday. I always think of Saturdays as brain break days. Enjoy the fire and the book!

  5. This post made me feel seen! Having ideas on what to slice about is not the problem. Having the mental energy to write thoughtfully (or, just write even if not particularly thoughtfully) after full days of teaching, momming, lifing, or whatever, is the hardest part of the challenge for me. I appreciate your perspective and love the clever limerick you used in this slice. For a tired brain, that was next level!

Molly, so brain freeze leads to writing a poem and sitting by the fire reading a book. That sounds like a very relaxing end to constant writing.

Well, for not wanting to write, you came up with a cute, funny poem! ;) Yes, we all need brain breaks! Mine was a couple of days ago…did not even post, even though I had several ideas-I just had no desire to get on the computer.
