We went to bed Saturday night with the power out and rain and ice lashing the windows. We woke to a world transformed. The power still hadn’t returned, but now every surface had been thickly coated with a thick glaze of ice. It was treacherous and it didn’t bode well for an imminent return of power, but it was also absolutely stunning.
The pictures really don’t capture the glitter and glow of it all. It was sparkle on steroids, everything frosted and frozen, like some sort of magical fairyland. Today, my 30 year old son mentioned that he’d commented to his wife, “It looks just like Narnia!” And it did!
Nix the comfort zone 
I love those Narnia like spring ice storms. Makes everything magical!

This was as stunning as I’ve ever seen, but wow, it wreaked some havoc! There were so many trees damaged, especially pines, and I felt so bad for all those ice-encased buds (even while I was admiring their beauty).

Sometimes natures stops us in our tracks, making us take notice of beauty. I love the Narnia reference. Hope you got through the power outage all right.

We had about 24 hours without power. Now we get to play Russian roulette with the food in the fridge…

So beautiful! My sister-in-law (near you!) also woke up to no power and it was her birthday! She said it was a beautiful gift from nature (but they also have a generator, so they were toasty warm inside!).

I was surprised how long the ice stayed on the trees. Even in the mid-afternoon in the sunlight, so many of them were still encased. It was such a sparkle show!

I love that you can find the silver (or frozen) lining in the harshest of conditions! Your photos are beautiful–I would love to experience that magical fairyland…once. Hope your power has returned and that conditions are reasonable for you and your community. (Is it spring break or are you still working this week?)

Power is back 🙂 It isn’t hard to find the silver lining in this scenario! So breathtaking! Spring break isn’t until mid-April for us, as we have a winter break in February. I’m dragging and counting the days more than usual.

We got power back after about 24 hours. We have two wood stoves, so were nice and toasty. We also have town water and a gas stove, so we were all set!

How long were you without power? We here in York never lost power as we didn’t have the snow you had. Our son in Scarborough was out for 20 hours. A friend Brunswick was out for two days. But I digress. Love the photos with your fabulous camera. Of course le camera is only as good as the photographer/artist dealing with F-stops and apertures. Well done MBH!

Welcome home! You sure brought some interesting weather with you! The snow wasn’t the issue here as much as the ice. We lost power for about 24 hours. By the way, the camera has this lovely little automatic setting and that’s primarily what I use. I fool around with the other settings occasionally, but not too often. Some day…I’ll take a class and learn more!
