A Wordle Poem

SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t played yesterday’s Wordle, do not go any further! (I’m not even sure if you can go back a day to play, but I don’t want to take any chances! That’s why I waited until Saturday to post– A Wordle-spoiler is an evil thing, indeed!)

So, you might have guessed that I’m addicted to Wordle (and Connections and Spelling Bee and all sorts of word games…) and play daily. A couple of years ago I used to use my Wordle guesses to write poems. I’ve fallen out of that habit, but yesterday the urge struck me to try it again. I solved Wordle in three guesses, and these were my three words (last chance to avoid the spoiler!!): scold, clean, leech.

Here’s the poem they inspired:

August Resistance

As summer’s last days unfold,
I will not scold myself for
failing to clean, to organize,
to do one thing, then yet another.
I refuse to allow duty
to leech joy
from these precious budding days.

Instead, I will honor
their haphazard blossoming.
I will simply be
content
as I am
amidst the glorious chaos
of my unweeded garden.

Here’s hoping you’re enjoying every bit of the unfolding of these golden summer days.

What a great idea to find inspiration in Wordle! I usually start my morning with that one and Connections. Here’s to those “precious budding days” unfolding gloriously!

Nothing better than some “glorious chaos!”

I’m completely hooked on the NYT puzzles. Thanks for the reminder to give Wordle poems another go.

  3. I took five to get leech though I had three green letters in place with my first word. Perch and fetch guesses did not prove fruitful. I am still looking to be in the Wordle Hall of Fame. By that I mean get Wordle in one! Hannah and my ping pong buddy George are in! I use words from Waffle (know the word game?) so I have something new each day. I shy away from words using the omnipresent T, R, S, A, and E. Just want a different challenge to my Wordle. I did hit today’s Wordle in 3! I do my Wordle first thing of the day. You?

I usually write for about half an hour and then dive into Wordle and Connections and Spelling Bee. I change my word daily depending on what strikes my fancy. (During the school year the word “tired” appears not too infrequently! lol) I do not belong to the exclusive Wordle Hall of Fame. Kudos to Hannah and George!

I love the glorious chaos of the unweeded garden. Everyday we’ve gone out to the school garden, we’ve gotten caught up in discovery, rather than weeding. And it’s glorious!

If you play Wordle daily, it’s an easy source of words. I hope you give it a try. The funny thing is that it makes guessing in 2 words almost disappointing–fewer words to play around with!

Your title is perfect 🙂 (Do you also do Quordle or Octordle or any of the Heardles? Sometimes I do them to help me get ready to go to sleep.)

Love this, Molly, and it’s such a fun idea to nab your Wordle words for a poem. I, too, tackle Wordle daily, along with Connections and Strands. My husband is a big fan of Spelling Bee too!
