PF: Double Dactyl

I went off script with a double dactyl prompt today and veered into politics. Sadly, it’s never far from mind. Happily, double dactyls are a fun challenge. (If you’re interested in learning about the parameters of the form, you can click here.)

Vomitous gromitous
President Donald Trump
thrives on autocracy,
bombast and lies.

Resist, Americans!
He is the ultimate
anticoagulant–
bleeding us dry!

This week’s Poetry Friday Roundup is hosted by Heidi Mordhorst at her blog, My Juicy Little Universe. In addition to hosting, she’ll be adding her line to this year’s Progressive Poem.

Molly, yes, here’s to a double dactyl call to action! “Vomitous gromitous” is perfect! The “anticoagulant / bleeding us dry” is so sad, but true. Peace!

Cleverly written! Chiming in on the “vomitous gromitous” love in the comments. Every disgusting word in the dictionary already applies to him, so poets must invent new ones. 😀

  8. Oh, I love this Molly! LIke others, it made me laugh about a not so laughable subject (down right scary). I’ll have to go back and learn more about the double dactyl form and how to write one! Thanks!

All right, Mss. Molly! Looking at both the DD prompts I’ve seen this week, YOU are the person who ought to be writing the samples, with your exact mastery of the rhythm and rhyme scheme, PLUS I now pronounce it affirmed that yours is the only double dactyl to contain–VERY successfully–the word anticoagulant! Thanks for being my reward for reaching the end of my hosting duties. 🌞

I LOVE that you were able to play with words here, even though the subject matter was so, truly, vomitous. I had to read it aloud!!
