I thought my summer hadn’t fallen into any sort of rhythm yet. Then, I realized that it’s actually been an unexpected rhythm, mostly consisting of a sedentary pattern of sleeping, eating and drinking, reading, napping. Rinse. Repeat. Other than the reading, I’m apparently emulating a newborn!
As the days of July are now more than half over, I’m considering how I want to shape the rest of my summer. Adding a bit more writing and creating to my days is high on the list. I haven’t participated in Poetry Friday in quite some time, and have really missed the community. Today, I’m chiming in with a late-to-the-party nonet.
Visiting my in-laws in Nashville
wondering where the years have gone
days spiced with laughter and tears
time passes so quickly
inevitably
departure looms
cherish each
fleeting
now

This week the marvelous Jan Annino is hosting the Poetry Friday Round Up at her blog, Bookseedstudio.

Cherishing the now is such a powerful reminder that this is what we have. I like your restful summer patterns. There is a lot to be said for the peaceful day to day living of life in the simple pages.

I’ve definitely been in the “simple pages”–at least physically, if not mentally and emotionally. I’m really trying to lean in to each moment and cherish the now.

I think, even though you didn’t ask, that your body is exhausted from the school year and needs a reset. I haven’t found a rhythm either. I’m grateful I don’t have to start back the first week of August. Cherishing now is how we should live. Sometimes now is just keeping the body alive, eating drinking sleeping.

You are going to be creating a whole new rhythm, and I’m excited to be along for the ride.

That’s the perfect form for the passing of cherished time. And like Margaret was saying, so perfect also that you landed on NOW.

Molly, cherishing the now is a beautiful thought. I shall remember that as a way to soothe the sorrow that came my way.

I need to frequently remind myself to “stay tuned!” But to the present, not the next episode…

I love the nonet form for this poem, as if it’s illustrating the way time can seem to dwindle and yet settle in on the most important thing: Now.
And I love “days spiced with laughter and tears.”
