In her typically generous fashion, Georgia Heard has begun to share monthly writing prompt calendars. For July she created a “Month of Tiny Letters.” Each day offers an invitation to write a tiny letter. Yesterday’s prompt was “Send love to your tired self.”
Dear Tired Self,
A nap
is a gift –
not an indictment.
Lean in.
Close your eyes.
Let the hammock
gently rock you
into easy dreams.
Three days. Two naps in the hammock. I’m doing something right!

Thank you for sharing Georgia Heard’s July prompts. Your letter in the form of a poem is just perfect. Especially at this time of the year. Yes “A nap- is a gift.” And the hammock is just soothing. Thanks for the photograph that completes your letter.

I was never a nap taker as an adult and am amazed at how refreshed I feel after a short nap these days. And ‘bonus’ if you get to rock to sleep in a hammock. 🙂 Summer days are the best!

I’ve always been a sort of cat-napper–ten minutes tops and I’m up again. This summer I’ve upped my game and I’m now napping for 30 minutes at a time. Crazy! I’m going with it for now, but have no idea how I’ll readjust this fall. I guess that’s a worry I’ll pawn off onto future me!

As an elder of the community, I nap every day if I can! And I can most days. Late morning naps are sweet. Off to Monhegan Island tomorrow for our 27th of 28 destinations of the Great Maine Scavenger Hunt. Last night we were in Freeport for a Film Festival (free) GMSH #26! I hope it’s been an early morning on the marsh for you. Speaking of meeting up with Hannah, where did you and your college roommate matriculate?

Molly,
I love your tiny letter poem! You had me on “tired.” Georgia is great! I was receiving her emails, but lately I haven’t. Our security system is picky; I will have to look in my junk. I love “a nap is a gift.” When I pet our cats, their purring makes me sleepy and sometimes I catnap next to them. I tell them to wake me in twenty minutes, but they don’t wake me up. Perfect photo and last stanza. 🙂
