This week has been a doozy. I’m chiming in with a little poem in praise of Autumn, and with thanks to Georgia Heard‘s October prompt calendar for inspiration.
Autumn
If I chose words
to hang
upon an autumn tree
I’d write
dazzle
tremble
release and
flutterfall
and be thankful
for them all

This week’s Poetry Friday Roundup is hosted by Linda Baie at her blog, Teacher Dance.

Word images fill me with delight, Molly, as yours has this afternoon. I’m looking out my window at the “dazzle”, seeing a few “release” today, but more is on the way! Thanks for writing and sharing even after the “doozy” week!

Thanks for hosting, Linda! Autumn is my favorite season–I love the contrast of a last blaze of color and light and the growing dark.

Doozy can be good-doozy or bad-doozy — hope it wasn’t the extensively bad kind of doozy!
I love your ode to autumn (esp. love “tremble” and “flutterfall”) and I’m thankful you took the time to share it with us!

It was more of a “long, long week teaching with a full day of PD to end it all” kind of doozy week. Now that I think of it, maybe doozy was a bit of an exaggeration! lol

Love the words you chose: dazzle, tremble, flutter fall. I wish we had more of a showy autumn. Your photos are fabulous.

You should come visit in the autumn and catch the color show! 🙂

Hi Molly, I like the idea of hanging your good word choices on a tree. Flutterfall is a cool word. Sitting on a summit of a mountain and looking down over a variety of trees painted in orange, gold, fire engine red, and maroon makes me tremble. Unfortunately, our trees’ leaves are duller than usual due to a lack of rain, but still pretty. Nice praise poem and beautiful photos. Thank you for your treat.
PS How are your second graders? That is a great age to teach.

Georgia Heard’s prompt was a fun one! I love the image of you sitting high above the colors, as that’s a vantage I don’t generally have. The trees are duller here as well as we’re mired in drought. Still, the color pops and lights up the scenery. Second grade is always an adventure 🙂 Thanks for asking!

Molly, we don’t have any dazzle just yet but your poem makes me eager to watch the leaves flutterfall. Your photos are gorgeous. If you have summer photos, I would love to share a few on my Summering gallery. The sneak peak is my offer to PF.

Ooh…flutterfall…YES! Your autumn is joy, Molly. We are catching amber, golds, and fleeting reds lacing our mountains, but winter is fast approaching. I do love Fall best though.

We’re wavering on the cusp of winter here, Patricia. Enjoy your fall while it lasts!

Thank you for the gorgeous peek into Maine’s “flutterfall!”
Here’s hoping the coming week is less doozy and more balanced.

Gorgeous photos! I like the hum of activity in your autumn tree words. The tree may be standing “still” but things are happening!

Gorgeous pic Molly, love the long shadows and bits of color in the background all move your eye around the composition! Fun poem too. I have a doozy week coming up, students will take their Midterm exam on Wednesday and all grades are due by Sunday, plus teaching each morning, yikes… Thanks for your post!

Thanks, Rose. Most of the leaves have fallen here now, but the gusty winds today are delighting in throwing them back up into the air.

Molly, what a precious poem. The words you chose to hang on your tree are perfection. I smiled more as I read each one. I want to remember them: dazzle, tremble, release, and flutterfall. You know, I think release is my favorite in some big metaphorical way. Lovely!
