Heidi Mordhorst is hosting this week’s Poetry Friday Roundup at her blog, My Juicy Little Universe. Her passionate post focuses on the Youth Climate Strike and on taking steps to address our climate crisis. She lists a number of steps people can take to enact change, spread the message and pressure our governments to act. Finally, she invites participants to “use your post and your poetry as an action to address the climate crisis and create hope.”
I’m late chiming in for the week, and I’m not particularly hopeful, but I’m sharing a poem I wrote about a year ago in response to Laura Purdie Salas’s 15 Words Or Less weekly poetry photo prompt.

Awww…such sad feelings from such few words.
Shows the power of poetry right there.

It was such a desperately sad event.

The juxtaposition of the cookie with the poem is striking and all too real.

Oh, wow. A few words that pack a punch. I think this is exactly the spirit of yesterday’s strike. Well done.

Please submit your poetry to the Sierra Club Magazine. I’ve looked up the link for you. https://www.sierraclub.org/sierra/editorial-guidelines. By that I mean, this summer when you have a chance to come up for air.

So much unfortunate truth to your poem. Very poignant, honest, real.

Oof. Sometimes 15 Words or Less is all you need. Gorgeously difficult. Thanks for amplifying my post and the work of our fearless, terrified teenagers.

Lots of laughs, Amanda and I are on the same wavelength and I did not read any of the comments before I wrote.

Oh my goodness. I love when a poem someone writes for 15 Words or Less has a life beyond that. So powerful…
